To begin with the words of Abel Tiffauges, the protagonist of Michel Tournier’s The Erl-King, may cast a revealing light: “Everything is a sign. Yet to pierce our myopia or our deafness, either a dazzling light or a piercing cry is required.
A Foucauldian genealogy, declaring Truth to be discursive and thus historical, had already carried us to the realization that Truth is relative—shifting from one soul to another, from one society to the next. The linguistic turn that followed revealed once more that such relativity is bound to the endless play of signs. And now, in an age where even signs themselves may be bent and reshaped, we find ourselves in the realm of the “post-truth”—an era where distrust and dissolution surround the very notion of Truth, not only in the philosophical sense but also in the fabric of the social.

Michel Tournier’nin “Kızılağaçlar Kralı” romanının kahramanı Abel Tiffauges’nün sözleriyle başlamak aydınlatıcı olabilir: “Her şey bir göstergedir. Ne var ki miyopluğumuzu ya da sağırlığımızı delmek için ya parlak bir ışık gerekir ya da tiz bir çığlık”. Hakikat’in söylemsel olduğunu, dolayısıyla tarihsel olduğunu söyleyen Foucaultvari bir soykütük araştırması, bizi izafi Hakikat’in bireyden bireye, toplumdan topluma değiştiği bir noktaya getirip bırakmıştı. Bunun ardından gelen dilsel dönüş (linguistic turn) yine izafi Hakikat’in göstergelerin sonsuz oyununa bağlı olduğunu göstermişti. Ve sonunda göstergelerin manipüle edilebildiği bir çağa, “hakikat-sonrası” (post-truth) çağa ulaşmış olup, sadece felsefi anlamda değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal anlamda Hakikat kavramına güvensizliğin ve çözülmelerin eşiğinde yaşıyoruz
